Learning Spaces

Re-examining approaches to Learning Spaces in schools has been demonstrated to help students and their learning succeed. Considering that education is the fundamental mission, learning and the environment in which it happens are of great significance.

We explore Learning Spaces with the viewpoint of Learning Reimagined.

Classrooms

To suit the requirements of progressive pedagogy, the concept of the classroom has both expanded and developed. Teaching-learning is more interactive and personalized and fosters inquiry. For example, a survey revealed that the majority (51%) of students prefer to learn by doing, compared to the 12% who prefer to learn by listening. Hence, the classrooms are designed to support learning by doing.

In our classrooms, the technology utilized is tailored to fit the age range of the students. For example, in primary classrooms, cameras and iPads along with computers are usually available. The furniture is a combination of seating arrangements to suit those who thrive on collaborative learning and those who prefer personal learning spaces. The atmosphere of the classrooms is made to be stimulating in order to encourage students’ innate inquisitiveness and ingenuity through experimentation and contemplation.

Library

The library plays a vital role in fostering an educational environment that supports the learning and development of both primary and secondary students. We are proud to offer two distinct Library facilities, one for each educational level, to cater to the specific needs of our students.

Our Primary School Library features a collection of books in various languages to support our mother tongue program. The library has been designed to provide students with a peaceful and focused environment for reading and learning.

The Primary School Library, located at Prometheus, offers a diverse selection of resources including:

  • Reading series such as Oxford Reading Tree and I Can Read
  • Fiction and Non-Fiction literature
  • CDs, DVDs, and teaching resources
  • Newspapers, magazines, online resources

The secondary library serves as a research-supportive media center, offering a thriving collection of books in various genres and adding new resources each month. It provides specialized reading programs for students in grades 6-8 and offers membership options. Furthermore, the library regularly holds sessions on referencing and citation to encourage academic honesty and integrity. Students have the option to access electronic books, journals and databases such as Gale for online research.

Hangout Spaces

In line with our Learning Reimagined initiative, we have outfitted our corridors for physical activity and learning outside the traditional classroom setting. Board games, floor games, reading nooks, work areas and exercise equipment are essential for students to interact with and appreciate the benefits of physical fitness! After long hours spent in the virtual realm, young learners begin recognizing endorphins’ positive effects. Common areas allow them to hone their social skills by teaming up with students from different grade levels. In addition, each story of the building has a creatively crafted outdoor area to break the monotony of the classroom and gain exposure to the sun and fresh air while learning. These areas are meant for collaborative work and serve as a platform for end-of-year performances or celebrating special days like Teacher’s Day. Our school provides students with a lounge meant for independent and focused work. Additionally, there is a Leisure room featuring various board games like carrom and chess meant for students to unwind and socialize with peers.

Labs

Science Lab:

Our  school is home to three distinct laboratory facilities for Chemistry, Biology, and Physics, designed to spark the imaginations of the upcoming generation of scientific minds. These fully equipped labs offer students hands-on opportunities to apply their theoretical knowledge through practical experiments, promoting inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Adjacent to the main laboratory spaces, there is a storage and preparation area to gain access to the necessary materials and equipment. For safety reasons, access to these areas is limited to staff members only. Additionally, the Chemistry lab features a fume cupboard and students are provided with protective clothing and eye gear for added precaution. The Physics Lab is equipped with data loggers and various sensors for executing experiments with great accuracy and precision. Our labs are monitored closely, and proper safety protocols are always adhered to in order to guarantee the safety of our students.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT Lab):

At Prometheus School, we acknowledge the significance of technology integration in today’s society. To provide our students with the necessary skills and competencies, we have established a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory. Our aim is to offer a cutting-edge learning experience and equip our students with the skills that will serve them well in any industry globally.

Lego Robotics Lab:

Our Robotics programme bolsters and facilitates students’ understanding and knowledge development through creating, designing, assembling, and operating robots. Learners are exposed to Mathematics, Science, and Engineering, three critical parts of the acronym “STEM” (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). As a result, they are given the opportunity to cultivate their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities at an earlier age and to let their inventiveness flourish as it enhances their use of creative imaginations.

As part of their education, students also learn and engage with 3D printing and coding skills. Such exposure provides them with an understanding of the integration of technology in various fields.

Design and Technology Lab:

At Prometheus Secondary School, Design and Technology is an offered course. Our DT lab is exceptionally equipped and assists students in attaining a range of design skills. These include product design, digital design, coding, and robotics. The following tools and equipment are available for students to use:

  • 3D printer
  • Laser printer
  • Laser cutter
  • Lathe machine
  • Timber/plastic cutter
  • Sewing machine,
  • Equipment to work on wood, plastic, and fibre glass.

We also offer an integrated STEM program that comes with DIY kits for hands-on activities. We have partnered with “Smartivity” Labs for this purpose.

Prometheus Town

Prometheus Town is an educational simulation community that provides a safe space for primary school students to explore and familiarize themselves with the secondary world. Our focus is on promoting holistic development through engaging and dynamic learning experiences. The simulation town features child-sized replicas of various real-world establishments, including grocery stores, police stations, restaurants, and more, providing students with opportunities for hands-on, collaborative learning through realistic role-play. This unique approach creates a fun and inspiring atmosphere while facilitating the acquisition of knowledge and skills.

Outdoor Spaces

Our institution offers a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere outside and within the classrooms. As part of indoor classroom activities, (confusion here) learners can pick whatever they like from the open racks to use during their activities. Outside, there is an impressive, landscaped playground with educational toys, bicycles, pets, and gardens.
