Primary Student Council 2024-25
Why have a Student Council?
To begin with, Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) says that children and young people should have a say in decisions that affect their lives.
What is a Student Council?
A Student Council is an organisation of a group of elected students to provide students with an opportunity to develop leadership by organising and carrying out school activities and service projects under the mentorship of teachers.
There are lots of reasons to have a Student Council at school.
A Student Council can provide a meaningful way for students to voice their opinions and consider their views in decisions that impact them.
A Student Council is an excellent way for students to take on leadership roles, promote the student body’s voice, problem solve and impact their community.
At the same time, it increases participation, teaching young people about democracy, local and global citizenship and accountability.
On 30th August 2024, the Prometheus Primary Student Council was formed during the Investiture Ceremony. The Primary Student Council is formed by Form 3 to 5 students. Members of the Student Council were elected by their peers to help bring about positive changes in the Primary School. Teachers as Student Council Advisors will guide these student leaders in successfully planning events, making decisions, representing their fellow students and developing leadership skills as they support their efforts to make an impact in Primary School.
